Volcano Hike

A unique ecosystem

The Islands of Guadeloupe are not only sublime postcard beaches, they are also a real natural treasure classified as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. Since 1992, terrestrial, coastal and marine areas have sheltered an ecosystem that is particularly protected to contribute to the conservation of landscapes and biodiversity.

Indeed, the Guadeloupe National Park is home to three types of natural environment: The tropical forest, the mangrove and the coastline. So many opportunities for excursions and incredible discoveries.

So, do not hesitate to take a guide, to take full advantage of your excursions. Passionate about their environment, they have the art of sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with you.

forêt tropicale

Basse-Terre, in the tropical forest at the ascent of La Soufrière

A lush tropical forest, dotted with waterfalls, natural hot tubs that you can discover in different ways: suspended in the middle of the canopy, by 4×4 or by hiking. And why not try everything? The sensations are different every time. One of my favorites remains the discovery of the volcano: La Soufrière, which the locals also call” The Old Lady ”.

Arriving at the top is worth it!

Sommet de la Soufrière

Discover the summit

5 hours of walking in the tropical forest. Several tracks with different levels of difficulty are possible. This hike is not only for experienced athletes, children from 12 years old can access this superb day of adventure. It is of course recommended to take a guide! (The concierge at La Créole Beach Hotel & Spa will undoubtedly be able to advise you on the best ones).

A memorable show

Throughout your journey you will discover numerous waterfalls, such as the Saut des 3 Cornes or the famous Carbet Falls and sulphur water sources. Believe us, the spectacle of the craters spewing their sulphur smoke is a memorable experience!

The baths of Sofaïa, a natural hot and sulphurous spring

Les Bains de Sofaïa

A moment of delight at the end of the hike

Equip yourself with good shoes (flip-flops are absolutely not recommended!!!).

Bring a small backpack with 1 bottle of water per person, a cereal bar or a snack to recharge the batteries, sun protection cream, but also rain gear and warm clothing. The volcano is often in the clouds and at the top it can be a bit chilly. You will also need a swimsuit. The hike usually ends with the “Sofaïa Baths”. It is a natural hot and sulphur spring, which is particularly pleasant after such a hike.

The source is renowned for these benefits for the skin, not only does it give it radiance, but it also cures skin problems like eczema. It also cleanses the liver!
